Just look at the character and pick out its parts one by one from the palette of components.
As you select components, characters that start with the selected components are shown in the candidate list at the top of the window. Within a few component clicks, you’ll see your target character in the list. For example, selecting “日” and then “月” produces “明” in the candidate list:
Clicking on “明” will select this character. Its pronunciation then appears at the lower left, and its meaning at the top:
Most Chinese characters are used in pairs, to form the
equivalent of an English word. For example, “understand” is “明白” in Chinese. You can easily
find the meaning of a Chinese phrase by entering the first two characters, then
press the 
button. For example, after selecting the
example “明” above,
enter the next character “白”,
then press .

In addition, after finding a character or a phrase, it is automatically placed into the Windows copy buffer, so you can go to another window, such as a browser search box, and “paste” the character or phrase into it, to look up further information.
